Local & State Leaders Recognize State Conservation Farm Family

 

PITT COUNTY, N.C. – Pitt County Soil and Water District with local and state officials will honor S&S Farms and Homeplace Strawberries as the 2021 State Conservation Farm Family of the Year during a ceremony on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the farm, owned and operated by Steve Sutton and family, located at 3054 Askew Road, Farmville, N.C.

 

North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture, Steve Troxler, is scheduled to join Leroy Smith, Chairman of the Pitt Soil and Water Conservation District Board (PCSWCD); Jimmy Gentry, North Carolina Grange President; Chris Hughes, North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (NCASWCD) President; Janis Gallagher, Pitt County Manager; Mitch Smith, North Carolina Extension Service and John Moore, Mayor of Farmville in presenting the award to S&S Farms and Homeplace Strawberries on April 19, 2022.

 

The award, presented annually to farm families who are actively innovating sound and cost-effective conservation practices, recognizes S&S Farms and Homeplace Strawberries’ conservation activities, stewardship, community leadership, education and conservation knowledge.

 

“We’re proud to have farms like S&S Farms and Homeplace Strawberries in Pitt County and look forward to honoring their hard work and conservation achievements at the event on April 19,” says PJ Andrews, Pitt County Pitt Soil and Water Conservation Director.
