Greenville Ranks High on “American Cities of the Future” List
Greenville, NC (April 18, 2011) - Greenville is officially on the list of "American Cities of the Future." Greenville made the top 10 in four categories, three of which were top 5, in the first ever fDi Magazine ranking.
Greenville ranks as 4th Overall Micro City of the Future, 4th Micro City for Economic Potential, 5th Micro City for FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Strategy and 6th Micro City for Human Resources.
fDi Magazine, from The Financial Times Ltd., focuses this ranking on a mixture of data and expert opinion to name cities that have the best prospects for inward investment, economic development and business expansion.
"We expected to do well in this evaluation, but even optimistic economic developers don't expect marks quite this good in multiple categories. Our community has won many accolades, and we're very pleased to add these kudos to the list," remarked Wanda Yuhas, executive director of the Pitt County Development Commission.
Greenville falls into the Micro Cities category, which includes cities with populations under 100,000. There are also categories for Major Cities with populations up to 750,000, Large Cities with populations between 250,000 and 750,000 and Small Cities with populations between 100,000 and 250,000.
fDi Intelligence compiled research on over 400 cities in North and South America and created shortlists for further study. This collection of data was organized into six categories: Economic Potential, Human Resources, Cost Effectiveness, Quality of Life, Infrastructure and Business Friendliness. A seventh category, FDI Promotion Strategy, was judged and scored by an independent panel based on over 100 city submissions from the shortlist.
"It's also important to note that the recognition is from a respected source, the research division of the Financial Times, the major competitor for the Wall Street Journal," stated Yuhas, "Our community can be proud of our performance."
